In the South, we love our iced tea, and when the weather is hot and sunny, what better time than to brew a pitcher of sun tea? We expect several 100-degree days this week, and I thought sharing this quintessential summer beverage might be fun.
Sun tea is tea brewed by the warmth of the sun. I found this glass beverage dispenser from Amazon that not only serves to brew the tea, but I can store it in the fridge and dispense it, too! The bonus is that it comes with a cute chalkboard sign on a rope with a marker to label the beverage! Ideally, you need a clear glass container to brew the tea so this fits the requirement.
Fill that jar with water. For every one gallon of water, you’ll add eight tea bags (be sure to cut off the white tags from the tea bags). I like to use either PG Tips or Lipton brands for my tea. I always dropped in a handful of fresh mint from my garden (totally optional), but I love the taste of mint tea. Screw on the lid, and place the jar in the sun for several hours until it’s reach the level of strength you prefer – I like strong tea.
Bring the dispenser indoors and remove the tea bags and mint. Let it cool before you try to put it in the refrigerator to chill (the glass will be warm). Then, enjoy all the garnishes! I like to offer slices of lemons, oranges, limes, more fresh mint, straws, and, of course, paper umbrellas for a festive touch. Set the tray outside by the pool or on your patio, and your guests can help themselves to the tea bar!
Now the most critical question – do you like your tea sweet or unsweetened?
