I had the absolute pleasure of traveling to Atlanta to join @francesvalentine for the launch of their Mary Tyler Moore collection and to learn more about their partnership with the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative @mtmvision_
As someone who grew up watching Mary toss that hat in the air and show a generation of women what independence, confidence, friendship, and possibility could look like, this experience felt especially meaningful.
There was fabulous fashion (of course!), wonderful conversation, and a room full of women celebrating the legacy of a woman who gave us so much more than an iconic television character.
And behind all the color, pattern, and nostalgia is an important mission: helping preserve and restore vision through the work of the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative. 💕

I know there are women who thrive over a hot stove while the doorbell rings, and I think that is wonderful. Truly.
But after 40 years of gathering people around my table, I have learned that the last thirty minutes before guests arrive are not for cooking. They are for lighting the candle. Pouring yourself something cold. Standing in your own doorway and actually being ready to welcome someone in.
The meal matters. But so does the woman making it. And she deserves to greet her people without a timer going off behind her.
Give yourself that. The recipe can be simpler. The evening will be better for it.

Somewhere along the line, we traded the quiet joy of reading a cookbook for endless digital noise.
Those spiral-bound church collections, Junior League volumes, and stained recipe cards tucked between pages hold recipes people actually made, loved, and served around real tables. They work because they were tested in real home kitchens, not staged for an algorithm.
This weekend, pull two or three off your shelf. Make a cup of coffee or tea, sit in a quiet chair, and actually read them. Let them remind you that feeding the people you love was never meant to feel frantic.
