Last week, I shared an Instagram post called Tidy in Five – five easy tasks you can do in a week to tidy up your workspace and home. My five tips include:

  1. Cleaning out your makeup drawer – purge your makeup drawer of old, outdated, or unwanted (you know that lipstick you thought would look SOO GOOD) products. Here’s the guideline I read from a Good Housekeeping article:
  • Liquid foundation – 6 months
  • Loose powder – two years
  • Mascara – 3 months
  • Liquid Eyeliner – 3 months
  • Cream Eyeshadow – 6 months
  • Pencil and powder eye shadow – 2 years
  • Lipstick, gloss and lip liner – 2 years

2. Donation Drop-Off – Fill one grocery bag with items you no longer use and take them to your local donation center this week. Try to get into the habit of donating items every week. I always have a bag going as I see things I no longer want to clutter up my space.

3. Audit Your Medicine Cabinet—Purge expired medicines and make a list of over-the-counter cough, cold, pain relief, and first aid items you need to stay well stocked in case the need arises.

4. Clean Your Makeup Brushes—I have a tutorial on my Instagram page here with my favorite Bobbi Brown brush cleaner. Did you know the American Dermatology Association recommends washing your makeup brushes every 7-10 days to maintain healthy skin, decrease bacteria buildup, and help your makeup application go on smoother and more accurately to color?

5.  Tidy Up Your Nightstand—Clear out your bedside drawer and keep only essentials for a calm bedtime routine. In my top drawer, I have my lavender and magnesium leg lotion, hand lotion, reading light, and a book handy.
