I’ve been making these beans since Mr. Twist and I first married, and they’re his favorite, especially when summer cookout season arrives. They pair perfectly with BBQ and hamburgers. The recipe originally came from Southern Living magazine, but I’ve added a few ingredients over the years. What I love about this is that it calls for three different kinds of beans, making it a hearty side dish.

I use Sweet Baby Ray’s traditional BBQ sauce because it makes for a sweeter bean. I’ve included that in the recipe, but you can substitute with your favorite BBQ sauce. I always prepare the beans the day before I plan to serve them, which saves time on the day of your cookout. One of my best hosting tips is to do as much preparation as possible before the day of your party.
