Now that you’ve had a few weeks to refresh your closet, or style a boutique closet….let’s talk about building a capsule wardrobe.  Simply put…a capsule wardrobe is a set number of clothes that can mix and match with one another to create many outfits.

Typically you wear a capsule wardrobe for three months, and then you update it for the next season.  By having a set number of clothes per season, you limit your shopping….thus saving money!  And the good news…accessories, jewelry, shoes, workout clothes, and outerwear do not count.  To make it easy, I like to start in groups of three.

For example….my winter capsule consists of 3 bottoms, 3 sweaters, 3 shirts, 3 blazers, and 3 skirts.  First, start with a color palette….mine is black, beige, gray, and camel.  Next, I add a coat, jacket, or accessory that compliments my capsule colors.   For a classy look, I’m loving a pair of black faux leather leggings paired with a belted black Michael Kors blazer.  To give my leggings a casual look, I wear them with an oversized sweater, animal print scarf, and black combat boots

My pleated midi skirts go great with a sweater and belt.  If I’m going out, I dress them up with a black shearling jacket paired with tights and black booties.  For a casual look, I like to top off a mock-wrap denim skirt with a black puffer jacket or faux leather jacket and combat boots.  Here are some of my wardrobe layouts. Remember the whole idea of a capsule wardrobe is to keep it simple.  Once you’ve picked your basics…the choices will seem almost endless!
