According to the Cambridge English Dictionary, the definition of “ladylike” is: Graceful, polite, and behaving in a way that is thought to be socially acceptable for a woman. Three ways to achieve this look is with dresses, bows, and lace….oh my!
For a summer party, you can’t miss with a “ladylike” look. A floral midi dress adorned with a wicker bag is ideal for a summer brunch. If you have a summer wedding coming up, a floral tiered dress or skirt would be ideal. And the bonus….these beauties will definitely entice you to take a few twirls on the dance floor.
Sometimes I worry the “church dress” is becoming a thing of the past. You too? For me, the ultimate church style is a dress or skirt draped with a jacket or coat….and of course, adorned with a pretty purse. If you are like me and need to stretch your dollars, you can achieve this look with a sundress draped with a blue or white denim jacket. This will give your church style a casual vibe while remaining ladylike!
Speaking of the “church dress”, several years ago I wrote a church lady’s fashion gospel called “When Bad Clothes Happen to Good Christians”. Eventually, I gave it a designer-ish title and now call it “BCGC” (Bad Clothes/Good Christians). Like the New Testament, there are 27 chapter titles filled with humor and salvation- saving fashion tips!
I’m pretty sure the closest earthly accessory that compares to the stars you will receive in your heavenly crown is a Texas-size bow. Show me a blouse, dress, or accessory enhanced with a beautiful bow, and I’ll show you a glimpse of heaven! We love how a blue off-the-shoulder blouse has been blessed with a saintly bow. And speaking of blessings….we think the “Bessie Bow Tote” by Loeffler Randall deserves an “Amen”!
“Pretty is as pretty does”….did your mother ever share this confusing advice with you? Mine did…a lot! A pretty look I love is a lace dress. Just like a bright sunny day, you will shine in a lovely yellow lace dress. We are also crushing on an array of eyelet and dotted Swiss tops paired with denim. From Zara’s dotted Swiss top shown on our Pinterest board with cargo pants to lace and eyelet worn with jeans….ladylike never looked so cool.
So here’s the blessing….from church dresses to pretty bows and lace, without fail, a “ladylike” look will have you behaving in a way that’s not only socially acceptable….but also salvation saving!
