True confession:  I rarely wear dresses, and I sincerely hope you will accept my apology for “skirting the issue”.

The main two reasons I wear skirts and not dresses:

..Dresses typically do not fit me properly…too short-waisted and/or too short in length…

..Whereas skirts come in all lengths and allow me to be stylishly creative!

The two trendiest skirts to purchase this season are checked and striped skirts.  Check our Pinterest board to see how we are loving how a red checked skirt was styled three different ways….with a white crop top, with a blue chambray shirt tied at the waist, and with a fun printed t-shirt.  The same goes for a striped skirt where a blogger shows how to wear it dressed-down or dressed-up. To dress it down, she paired it with a white tee and pearl embellished flats, a straw bag and hat…a great look for running errands all day.  For a dressier look, she added a pair of embellished heels, a laser cut clutch, and statement earrings…a great look for date night!

Denim skirts, like jeans, are so comfy and go with everything.  Last year, I purchased a knee-length denim pencil skirt at the Dillard’s outlet store. I’ve had fun styling it with a t-shirt and a scarf tied through the belt loops, and I’ve also worn it with a button-down tied at the waist and espadrilles.  Both ways give it a laid-back summer vibe.

Style Tip:  The key to a good looking pencil skirt is the fit.  I typically purchase these in a size larger because they look more flattering.

A ruffled pencil skirt from Banana Republic with an asymmetric flounce hem adds a breath of fresh air to an iconic silhouette.  I suggest head-to-toe neutrals so the statement ruffle can take center stage. My cute cousin, Alicia, (The Lush List blogger), did exactly that.  To give it a summer vibe, add a round wicker bag and a cute pair of espadrilles.

From stripes to florals, big and bold printed skirts definitely make a fun statement.  The big black and white checked pencil skirt on our board is one of my favorites. They styled it summer-casual with a straw hat and sandals.  Plus, I’m crazy about all the polka-dot skirts on our board. With printed tees, sweaters, and blouses there are lots of tops to pair with these bold skirts…you pick!

Guess what I’m loving about all the ruffled and tiered skirts that are trending?  Absolutely everything! Earlier this year, I purchased two ruffled skirts on sale at H&M.  For a casual look, I’m wearing the printed ruffled skirt with a white shirt tied at the waist, black slides, and carry a wicker tote with tassels.  My other frugal purchase from H&M was a tiered ruffled skirt in a floral print….so sassy with sandals, a printed tee and a oversized orange tote.  Both looks will be perfect for my summer beach vacays…an added bonus for sure!

Yep…I have to admit…I’m pretty good a “skirting the issue”!  Apologies accepted!
