Recently, one of my young Facebook friends posted this: “Off the grid…bye.” Don’t be alarmed…he was just flying to Oregon for the weekend!
The Urban Dictionary definition for “off the grid” is: The term for a person who is not on a social networking site, i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. Example: “Amish people live off the grid.” No need to worry…this article is not about how to dress Amish. But it is about taking time to relax and what to wear when you are casually enjoying life!
So let’s get started and talk about what to wear when you are actually off the grid and enjoying life. Maybe it’s Sunday morning. With contemporary worship services casual style makes it so much less stressful. That being said, there is no reason you can’t look somewhat put together…right? So, here are a few of my ideas for attending church off the grid! Make it as simple as possible…tops and bottoms. A pair of camel slacks worn with a white button-down blouse, flats, and a pair of pearl earrings. Though, my favorite easy Sunday morning look is a midi skirt with a tucked in blouse. Really, just take it easy…“Easy like a Sunday morning!”
But what happens after Sunday? Monday…yuck, back to the grind. Oh, I almost forgot…you are off the grid. Taking a staycation today? Good for you! My suggestion is to stay in bed all day, eat a bag of Cheetos, and watch Netflix. But, even if you are staying home all day, think about wearing a cute pair of sweat pants. The pair of grey sweats from Target worn with an Old Navy cardigan, t-shirt from Forever 21, and flip-flops on our Pinterest board has “off the grid” written all over it!
What’s your favorite day of the week to go off the grid? Mine is definitely Saturday. Coffee in bed, stacks of fashion magazines and a good book puts me in a lounging mood for sure. So here’s the deal, my husband and dog are the only ones who will see me. So the way I see it, I have 2 options: Sometimes I wear my polka dot PJs with a gray t-shirt that says “Hola,” and no makeup and sometimes I like to wear a pair of matching pajamas…and a little lipstick. Both ways, I’m off the grid, which makes me so happy!
Here’s a “Holley Tip”: For a lounge look, think about re-purposing the kimono you wear with jeans and start wearing it over your sweatpants or PJs around the house. Sounds elegant to me and who doesn’t love to lounge?
Where do you go when you want to chill and go off the grid? This probably won’t surprise you, but I like to go shopping…by myself. My usual shopping uniform is a pair of skinny jeans, a blouse, and sneakers. But when I visit my favorite mall, Northpark Center in Dallas, I turn up the style a bit. On a recent trip, I wore a plaid Ralph Lauren maxi skirt (purchased at Dillard’s Outlet store at Ridgmar Mall), a white blouse tied at the waist, a gold wristlet from H&M, and gold metallic sandals from Sam Edelman….easy breezy! And, I even received a few compliments from some stylish Dallas gals!
With the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale going on, there was a large crowd and great style watching while I sat in the food court eating my “Snappy Salad!” So here are a few tips for Northpark shopping. For a young trendy look, be sure to check out Top Shop at Nordstrom’s. Also, H&M and Zara have the newest styles at more affordable prices.
For a classic style, I like to browse at Carolina Herrera’s for inspiration, and for fun and whimsy, you can’t beat Kate Spade! And if you are looking for a gift for a friend, be sure to stop by Papyrus for a great selection of notebooks and cards.
Don’t you just love the idea of “going off the grid?” But please remember…even if you plan to go ultra-casual or just staying home, you can still look stylish and put together!

Dear Holley,
My dilemma is keeping my white blouses white. What is your secret? I’ve tried the cleaners and numerous gentle detergents. I know you must have a secret for this problem.
Hugs,
Laurie
