November: A Month of Abundance
Oct 27, 2016 | (Mrs. Twist Reads This)
Every November I relish in reading Ann Voskamp’s books. She’s a New York Times best selling author and I’ve written about her before. You may be familiar with her last two books: One Thousand Gifts and Unwrapping the Greatest Gift: A Family...
She taught me how to prepare fabulous food, entertain guests with style and design a traditional home with a pop of color and a splash of animal print. Share my fondness of blending Mother’s mid-century style with a modern spin.

Every woman deserves a place that`s hers alone — a soulful, story-filled retreat to sip, play, dream, and remember who she is beyond the to-do lists.
My Ladies` Lounge is where I let my imagination wander, where memories meet new moments, and where the soundtrack is always perfectly set to me time.
It`s a space filled with treasures like my mother`s secretary that still smells like it did when she wrote letters 50 years ago. Books that inspire me, puzzles to engage my mind and Barry Manilow to keep me company.
I can`t wait to share more with you from this dreamy, colorful corner of my world.

My new gallery wall is finished. I`ve gathered up all my meaningful pieces and hung them as if they were in a traveling exhibit to share my love of color, flowers, and sentimental pieces. They each tell a story hanging happily in my Ladies` Lounge.
💫 A watercolor by Mrs. Helen Moody, the mother of my mother`s childhood best friend, Ruth. It`s easily 100 years old.
💫 My portrait painted by the irreplaceable @catherinewhite.art, which she gifted me when I earned my master`s degree. You`ll also see five other works of hers on this wall.
💫 An abstract floral by my beautiful sister Paula @violetsmimi when she was in high school. It`s always been my favorite.
💫 An abstract self-portrait by my talented daughter @phoebeaustinweeks who inherited her painting talents from her English Granddad.
Collect what you love. Curate what makes your heart sing with joy. Don`t waste your time measuring, making a grid, or waiting for the right time. Hang the art. It`s your love letter to all who admire it, but mostly, it`s for YOU.

✨ Day 2 of The Ladies` Lounge restyle is here, and today we’re giving the bookcase a glow-up that’s equal parts bold and beloved.
I used peel-and-stick wallpaper to echo the orange in my curtains, and filled the shelves with treasures that tell my story — books I adore, art that whispers read more, seashells, family photos, and my ever-growing collection of blue and white chinoiserie.
Sometimes, all it takes is a little pattern and a pop of color to turn a plain backdrop into a joyful invitation to linger (and maybe pick up a book).
Stay tuned — the final reveal is coming Saturday, and trust me… she’s going to be a stunner.
