It’s a Colorful Life Christmas Home Tour

Welcome to my Home for the Holidays tour!  The elves have sleighed the week trimming the trees, tying ribbons on wreaths, hanging vintage mistletoe, and setting up the perfect hot cocoa bar. And for good measure, the cats have broken a few ornaments!

So come all ye joyful and let’s make merry for the It’s A Colorful Life Christmas Home Tour blog hop!  I have no doubt you’ve seen plenty of Christmas home tours by now, but hopefully, this week will be filled with the happiest, most festive, and colorful spaces for you to enjoy different than anything you’ve seen yet! My talented friend Jennifer from Dimples & Tangles gathered twenty-three colorful interiors-loving friends to share their holiday homes with you. This year I am sharing my Ladies Lounge.  Traditionally, what would be used as a dining room, I converted the room into a fun room to store and read my cookbook collection and display my collection of vintage dishes and cake plates. I wanted the space to pop with color and my personality. Since it’s the first room you see when you walk in the front door I would say my Ladies Lounge definitely is a twist on the traditional.

I decorated three skinny trees in various sizes and clustered them together in front of the window. I always love seeing lit trees through the windows when I drive around looking at Christmas lights, don’t you?  When I was growing up we always had white-flocked trees so that is why I am naturally drawn to either white or colored trees. Each tree is decorated differently – the pink tree has mostly pink and white ornaments with a sprinkle of vintage ones from my childhood. The small tree is tucked inside a vintage silver ice bucket and is decorated with tiny colorful balls.  The larger of the three trees are filled with gold ornaments. The butterflies belonged to my mother.

And, of course, standing next to the trees is Marion a vintage dress maker’s form I couldn’t live without from a Lemons to Lemonade estate sale Marion’s the resident hostess in the lounge! She’s dressed in her pearls with an adorable tulle and gold ric-rac apron my friend Suz made for me last Christmas.

I love the bright paper packages under the tree. The paper and ribbon are designed by the super talented Cassie Kruemcke of WirrWarr Wraps. I took one of her Wrap Star classes in 2019 and have been a big fan ever since. You can spy her ribbons later in the post on my Foo Dog lamps.

Let’s move on to the table I set just in case Mrs. Claus wants to join me for tea while Santa is out making his deliveries. Earlier this spring, I purchased the tulip table from Target because I wanted a small table that wouldn’t fill the dining space. I already had the hot pink, tufted stools that fit nicely under the table.  Since I recently started collecting Franciscan Desert Rose pottery I thought it would pair beautifully with Amy Montgomery Home’s pink and white check placemats and napkins (similar here and here). For an extra pop of color, I added ruby thumbprint goblets (wait until you see the punchbowl set), hot pink garden roses, and gold flatware, another estate sale find. And for good measure, adorable Glitterville pink and cream Santa mugs.

For something creative, just tie a ribbon through a Christmas ornament and place it at each person’s seat. You can even add a tag with their name as a keepsake party favor.

Just a few more things to share. I took an old chalkboard and painted the wood frame the same creamy pink as the wall color (Magnolia Home Paint Ella Rose), and hand-lettered Ladies Lounge at the top. It’s a fun way to add a welcoming message or a cocktail for the evening.

I found huge bottles of Processco from Trader Joe’s and had the fun idea to use my gorgeous ruby thumbprint punch bowl from Long Game Bar Ware like a champagne bucket.  I put the bottle down in the punch bowl and filled the bowl with pink, red and silver ornaments. I think it looks like champagne bubbles!

The French provincial dresser belonged to my grandmother. I use it to store all my table linens and napkins. Dressers aren’t just for the bedroom, you know. I am so happy with how the room turned out. Mrs. Claus and I will be enjoying some bubbly sips by the tree. The Oh What Fun embroidered cocktail napkins from Target were my inspiration for the room.
