John and I have been going to Aspen almost every summer for over two decades. But this year was the best! That’s because our oldest son, Andy, and his family joined us!
So let’s get started and talk about what to pack for a summer mountain vacation….family style! Since it was a very cool end of May, blazers, jackets, and even a puffer were first on my packing list. For the flight, a comfy and practical look is a pair of jeans, button-down shirt, espadrille loafers, and a blazer. Since it was snowing in Aspen when we arrived, I was so happy I packed a waterproof jacket. Plus, this was a great look for strolling around town and perfect for the cool summer climate.
For a fun day of hiking and exploring the John Denver Sanctuary and the Maroon Bells, a good pair of sneakers or hiking boot is a must. REI in Waterside has a great selection to choose from. In fact, they have everything you need for hiking…so be sure to check out the photos I took at their store on our Pinterest board. For an early morning hike on the Rio Grande Trail, I packed workout pants, a long sleeved t-shirt and a puffer jacket. Again, REI is the place to go for great service, knowledgeable sales reps, and an awesome inventory!
From shorts and jeans to sneakers and sandals, your mountain vacation style should be casual and comfortable. And be sure to pack a pair of Birkenstocks! An easy everyday look features a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans worn with an army green button-down shirt and sandals….perfect for mountain shenanigans! For the young gals, a hat and bandana complement a pair of cutoffs and a t-shirt….just add sandals or summer booties!
While we were in Aspen, Andy and Melissa celebrated their 7 year wedding anniversary! For an anniversary night on the town, I’m loving a gray maxi dress topped with a denim jacket and paired with brown sandals. Another cute mountain-mama look is a striped dress topped with a green vest….just add sandals or sneakers. So cheers to Andy & Melissa and fabulous mountain style!
At the end of a fun-filled week, we were sad to say goodbye to our kiddos and Aspen. But here’s the good news…we are still on a “rocky mountain” high!
