It may come as a surprise when I tell you this – I am not a sports fan. I didn’t grow up with a dad who was into watching anything other than war, westerns, or gangster shows and movies. And my sweet Mr. Twist will watch TCU play on TV, but that’s about it. Now, what I will support is the cocktails, snacks, and what I am going to wear.
So this weekend is the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. And in honor of the 92nd annual tour, I am sharing how to make their official cocktail – the Azalea. The sip is named after the thousands of vibrant, bright pink azalea bushes that bloom at the National Golf Club during the Masters Tournament each April.
So, if you are inclined to want a delicious sip to celebrate here is the recipe:
2 oz. vodka (or gin) preferrably chilled
2 oz pineapple juice chilled
1 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 oz of grenadine
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the vodka or gin, pineapple juice, and lemon juice. Shake for 30 seconds to chill the drink. Strain into a cocktail glass filled with ice, and add more ice from the shaker if needed. Top with the grenadine (some people mix the grenadine into the shaker, but I like to add mine right before serving because it’s so pretty). Either way is fine.
And if you love my dress in the photo above, it’s from my friend Kimberly’s boutique – Shop Lemoncake. The 100% cotton midi dress has a flattering zip-up detail and both floral and gingham patterns to get you through golf tournaments to garden parties! Here’s the link to shop.
Join me every Friday during the garden season for a fresh, seasonal craft cocktail. Cheers!

Hospitality is in my DNA. I founded Home with a Twist, a daughter’s twist on her mother’s traditions, in memory of my mother to celebrate her life and the gifts she shared with me. Mother loved to celebrate life’s occasions – big and small.
This sounds delicious! You made me miss my daddy! He too, watched, war, westerns and gangster movies, that’s where I got my love for classic movies. He was an avid golfer, though, playing into his 90s. He kept a record of every golf course he played, and what he scored, even details about each hole. Weekends at home, there was usually a golf tournament on tv…great background noise for a nap!
What a sweet story! I bet his golfing is what made him live such a long life. How precious. Thank you for sharing this with me. Love you.
