I used to believe that hosting meant having it all together before anyone sat down. The right napkins folded the right way. The food timed perfectly. The house looking like no one actually lived in it.
But after forty years of opening my front door to people, I can tell you this. Some of the best conversations I`ve ever had happened over mismatched plates. Some of the deepest laughter happened when the recipe didn`t turn out. Some of the most meaningful moments happened when I stopped performing and just sat down with my guests.
Your table is already enough. The dishes in the sink, the chairs that don`t all match, the candle you lit to cover the fact that you burned the rolls. All of it.
Because the women sitting around your table didn`t come for the presentation. They came because you made room for them.

👇👇Save the recipe below for Midnight Margaritas - perfect for Spooky Season 👻🧙♀️🧹 and a Practical Magic movie night.
The first guest who walks through the front door gets put in charge of the bar.
When someone arrives early to a party, standing around in the kitchen can feel awkward. Instead of me playing bartender all night, I hand the recipe and teach them how to make the welcome cocktail.
It breaks the ice immediately, gives them a purpose, and frees me up to greet everyone else.
Midnight Margarita recipe:
Rim a glass with a lime, then dip the rim into black sugar (I found it at @totalwine).
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add
2 oz tequila
1 oz Cointreau
1 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz agave syrup
1/2 oz blackberry liquer
Shake for one minute, strain over fresh ice. Garnish with a lime slice. Cheers!
