Hospitality is in my DNA. I founded Home with a Twist, a daughter’s twist on her mother’s traditions, in memory of my mother to celebrate her life and the gifts she shared with me. Mother loved to celebrate life’s occasions – big and small.
She taught me how to prepare fabulous food, entertain guests with style and design a traditional home with a pop of color and a splash of animal print. Share my fondness of blending Mother’s mid-century style with a modern spin.
Part two - if Netflix calls and wants me back I can show you ALL the dishes, and confessions, inside my hosting closet.
True story about the wedding shower. I haven`t stopped looking at China patterns since 1972. I finally did get the Lenox Autumn but not until recently when my bestie @catherinewhite.art and I found a set at @ltolestatesales and split it up so we could both enjoy it.
Stay with me for more dish obsession confessions! 🌟🌟🌟
Some people collect memories. I collect dishes. 🍽️
It started at seven years old. I went to my first bridal shower and knew right then the china pattern I would own one day - Lenox Autumn. I sat there watching women unwrap gravy boats and butter dishes and thought, "This is it. This is what I want my life to be."
It`s been downhill ever since. 40 years and the truth finally comes out.
Hidden boxes in the trunk sneaking them inside under darkness. My husband has stopped asking, "what`s in the box?" There’s no problem here.🤣
What would your Netflix documentary be about?👇👇
Disclaimer: No antique dealers were harmed in the making of this reel. The restraining order is fictional. The obsession is very real. ☺️🤔🤫
It was such a joy welcoming @homeworthy for a tour of my home. I had no idea the real star would be my sweet dog, Hazel.
Much of my story on Homeworthy spoke to how I`ve curated a story-filled home of art and collections inspired from my childhood and my mother`s legacy of hospitality.
But, something unexpected happened that day.
I adopted Hazel right after my mother died in 2013. She`s been my comfort and my shadow ever since. So when the cameras came, of course she insisted on being held the entire day - going room to room in my arms.
This tour isn`t just mine. It`s Hazel`s, too. I will cherish that day forever.
Comment HOME and I`ll send you the link to watch the episode on YouTube.
Thank you @houseofmbr for the beautiful hostess skirt I wore for the day.💛
Maybe it’s the sound of the screen door closing behind you after a day spent outside. The smell of something baking in the kitchen. Your mother’s handwriting on a recipe card. The chair where someone you loved always sat. The way the house felt when everyone was home.
It’s funny how the smallest things become the biggest memories.
For me, it`s not a "thing" it`s a feeling. I`d love to relive my childhood summers. That first day of summer break. The smell of the public pool. Homemade ice cream in a hand-crank mixer. Catching fire flies. Camping. My birthday. My mother always made my August birthday magical.
I’d love to know… what’s the one little thing you’d go back and experience just one more time? 👇👇👇
