After 40 years of welcoming people into my home, I have learned that true hospitality is simply removing friction before your guest even feels it.
Here are the little details I keep in our guest bathroom so nobody ever has to secretly search through medicine cabinets or ask for help:
• Extra toothbrushes and travel toothpaste
• Travel mouthwash and floss picks
• Feminine products placed openly in a pretty canister
• Makeup wipes, which also saves your good white linens from mascara
• Single-dose headache, antacid packets and allergy medicine.
• A little stain remover pen for quick dinner spills
• A dedicated stack of waffle hand towels right by the sink
• Extra toilet paper and tissues
When everything is out in plain sight, your guests can relax and feel completely cared for.
What is the one thing you always forget to pack when you stay with friends?

I could have opted out before the stacks of linens, silver tureens, glassware, and candle holders got this big.
I decided not to because I love gathering people around the table that much.
My mother and grandmother`s Johnson Brothers Friendly Village china lives right here alongside decades of estate sale finds. The closet is filled, some may say slightly out of hand, and I would not change a single shelf.
